What is Gap in Cover with No Claims Bonus?

Gap In Cover is a term that is commonly used to describe a period of time when you don't use your No Claims Bonus on a car insurance policy.

There are a number of reasons why there may be a Gap In Cover such as:

  • If you sell your old car and aren't buying another one straight away
  • If you've taken your car off the road and declare it SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification)
  • does not require a car anymore i.e. job closer to home
  • stops driving for ill health
  • has been travelling around the world

Insurers will often accept gaps in use of no claims bonus for up to 2 years, as long as their criteria are met.

We can accept a Gap In Cover regardless of the reason providing it is within 2 years.

We cannot accept No Claims Bonus that is over 2 years old with any insurer.
